Evaluation commentary

video
This is my evaluation answering 3 of the questions.

Mariannes final evaluation.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our song choice was 'wana be gangster' dizzee rascal ft lily allen. We chose this song as it was really upbeat song, and an interesting to genre to look into. When we started to research the genre of hiphop/ and grime, we really started to notice that it is all about how they represent themselves and the attitude that they portray. I feel that our music video does follow the connventions of a real music video, for example we used lots of costume changes and different locations. Another connvention of proffessional videos that we did follow is the way the artist presents themsleves, as our song is alot about image we really needed to put alot of thought into how we are going to show our artist to the audience, so for example we started to look into what type of things dizze rascal would wear and the movements he would act in his video, so we took ideas from artists like him.  we wanted to follow the connventions of a hiphop/grime music video in the mise en scene, performance, camera and editing tecniques. We followed the costumes that the artist would normally where, for example flat peaks and baggy jeans and nike jumpers, and for the representation of lily alen we thought it was best for kizzy to be wearing colourful clothes, dresses and trainers. it was very important for us to have the perfect costumes. We continued the hip/grime mise en scene with our location, using the streets, loukas bedroom and the studio, i felt it was best filming in the studio as it looked very proffessional, filming in the studio follows the connventions of dizzee rascals videos which is what we liked,so we decdied to do it our selves.

One way i feel we challenged the connventions of a real music video is we made our music video quite commical, i feel you normally dont see this is a proffessional video as they are normally quite serious and acting a part, but we wanted to make our video funny and show our personalities. when reseaching for our music video, we looked at goodwins theory and one of his points was 'voyerism', he explained voyerism as looking at the female performer in a very sexual way due to the camerwork, closeups and editing, this bring the audience satifaction and they enjoy watching the video alot more, an example of use of voyerism is strong and independant female Rnb and Pop artists Rhianna and Beyonce, in there videos  them weait shows them wearing very little clothes, closes up of there lips and legs and provocative dancing, by these artist following the connventions of voyerism they bring themselves more viewing and album sales, and makes them alot more popular. Altohugh we dont show kizzy in a sexual manor, we portray he character as a leading female and we show her looking down on louka our male character, for example in in the video you can see kizzy pushing louka around and she sings to louka ' i dont want to  talk to you anyway loser,' evan though we didnt follow the connvention of voyerism we still showed kizzy as a powerful female and an atrist to look up to.

For out magazine advert and digipack i feel we did follow the connventions, maybe not the connventions of a mainstream artist like beyonce or rhianna but we did follow the connventions of a hiphop/ grime artist. With the photo for the magazine advert it coverd most of the page and was a very eye catching photo, which is the hole point of a magazine advert, the reason why the photo was very eye catching was because louka ispointing right at the camera and has a very evil look in his eyes, we wanted to edit the photo in photoshop and put an interessting effect on it so it looked like a cartoon drawing, after we finished our magazine advert we looked at some of dizze rascals magazines advert and there is one that looks very similar to ours. we also followed the connventions by including all of the vital information. For our digipack i feel we challanged the connventions, for example we didnt use a photo of the artist posing and looking at the camera, we used two photos for the front cover and editied them so you could only see the outline of the artist in colour, which looked really intersting and different. overall i feel we did a really great job creating our three prodducts and reseaching and looking into the connventions.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancilliary texts?
I feel that the combination of our main product and ancilliary texts is very effective. i liked how they all turned out. Our main aim and idea that we had for all our prodcuts relate to eacother, and evan  though they do look quite different, you can tell they are made from the same group.
we worked really hard trying to make these products very succsessful, and i feel our ancillary texts look abit more professional than our music video, maybe because it was easier to create them on photoshop. One thing in common that all three products have is the image and representation of the artist.( Dizzee Rascal ). Dizzee Rascal is an underground MC, who has upcome in the mainstream industry rapidly, meaning he has had to adapt his music to different fans to his original ones. However our costumes helped us represent his underground reputation with me louka wearing brands such as "Adidas Originals", hoodies and jackets, also wearing known brands such as "Lyle and Scott", and "Ralph Lauren". Wearing these certain clothes was very important to us, as this hiphop/grime image is all about the way the artist look, and about showing off, so we made it a priorty to have a lot of differnt costume changes and make sure louka looked approitate.

When we were planning our ancillary texts we wanted them to look very similar so it was clear to the audience, but when actaully creating our ancillary texts we chanegd our mind and they ending up looking quite different, we thought it was good to make them look quite different, but we didnt want to confuse our audience. With the magazine advert we used just a photo of louka which we took in a shoot a couple of lessons before, the photo was a really good one to chose as it was the most effective, louka is pointing at the camera and has an evil stare in his eyes which captures your attention, the photo is very big and covers most of the page. we wanted to use a big bold font as we wanted it to stand out, we reseach some other grime and hiphop artists magazine adverts and they use bubble writting, so we thought we would try that out and that ending up looking really good. Using photoshop we added a black and white cartoon effect on to the photo which gave it a good representation of the hiphop genre. Our digipack looked very differnt to this, we used similar photos to ourmagazine advert, but we editied them very differntly, with our digipack we used an effects that showed rainbow coloured outlines of kizzy and loukas faces, this made it bold and showed a very fun personality. With our font for the digipack we didnt use a bubble font, but we still used a big bold font which went very well with the photos and effects. with the digipack and magazine advert we added all the vital information, although we didnt get time to add a barcode on the back of the digipack.

As in our music video the only two people shown are louka and kizzy, we felt it was important to only show them and represent them.so on the magazine advert and digipack we only showkizzy and louka,so the audience dont get confused. i feel our products work very well together and this was very important to us, they stand out as they are quite stylish. i feel that the way louka and kizzy act and look in the music video, magazine advert and digipack look great, it really potrays them the way we wanted to, it shows a wana be gangster attitude and that is what we were trying to achieve.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
our group felt that getting feedback from the class and our teachers would help us improve our video and get it up to a better standard, as we revieved this feedback half way through we were able to take this advice and fix any issues or problems we have especially if we needed to film more. so we could get feedback from the class we had to create a rough cut edit on photoshop, evan though we hadnt finished filming we still had to put together what we had so  we could show everyone, we looked at the other members of our groups and gave them feedback aswell.

we revieved some positive feedback from the class which really helped us as i felt we were really stressed about getting it all done. the main possitve feedback was that you can see that kizzy and louka have a really good relationship as they look and work together well on camera, at first i was going to play the part of lily allen  but then we decided to use kizzy as kizzy was a better performer, as there relationship was very strong this made the narrative very clear, amars comment was that there performance looked believable and you can see that they are close. i feel it was very important for louka and kizzy to have a good relationship on camera as some of the lyrics are of louka and kizzy interacting together and we have to show a connection.

the constructive critism that we were given was very helpful,i feel it was good to get feedback from outsiders as they dont know all the thoughts and details so it is good to hear what they see. we also wanted to know if our if they enjoyed our rough cut and wanted to see more. some of the critisism that was given to us,was that the beggining scene went on for to long for example in the beggining we had a shot of kizzy going on for about 15 seconds and amar said this was to long and he got abit bored, so a way we could fix this was by breaking it up abit and introducing loukas character abit earlier, we thought this was really great critisism and we took his advice, and i feel our into looks alot better now. another critisism revicieved from the class was that our miming was abit out of time, we knew this but we found it very hard to get it perfect as it would go out of sync or the bit of footage wouldnt look right with the lyrics, we have never had to fit visuals with lyrics before and thats why i think we found it very hard, we did take this critisism on board and did try and fix it but itwas very hard to make it all perfect.

The feedback from our magazine advert was very posstive, our teacher said our photo was a very interessting one to choose,as it was the most eye capturing as louka is pointing to the camera, our class felt we used good costumes and locations to take the photos in. our class liked how our magzine advert was quite different as our photo had a very interessting effect put on to it, so overall our magazine advert looked very cartoony which was really good. We didnt get much feedback on our digipack apart from they thought it was interessting that we used to images on the front cover and also where we placed the text was quite interessting, i feel it would have been better if we would have recieved feedback during the process of making the ancillary texts and then we could have known how we could of improved.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

When we started to research and plan for our music video we used 'Youtube' a video sharing website which is an example of new media technology, we used youtube to view music videos where we could take inspiration from other artist such as dizzy rascal, rhianna, and proffessor green and there are some videos were we could see how they made their music video. we also used youtube to research past students work so we could see the video they made and how they tackled their problems.and another way in which we used youtube was to upload our video so other people could see and comment, ifeel youtube really helpes us as this is where we got our inspiration from.
Another new technology that we used was a website called flirk, we used flirk to upload our photos so we could upload them onto the blog, the reason we had to do this was because blogger was saying that we had to many photos up. so we had to go onto flirk and upload the photos that we wanted, and once they were uploaded we had to find the HTML code and copy that onto theblog, this caused a few problems as it was a bit time consuming and bit annoying to keep having to repeat to get a photo on the blog.
Another new website that we used which we are very filmilar wich was blogger, blogger allows us to put all of of research upfor the music video onto the blog, it is very helpful as eveyone in your group can acsess it and put images and video up where they got their inspiration from or use it to put down any ideas they had,i really enjoyed using blogger as you could make it personal and plan everything we wanted to do.
When we were planning our music video we made storyboards, call sheets and time lines, this really helped us get organsied so we knew how our video was going to work, we did changed how the storyboard and timeline went as it was only just a rough structure, as these we drawn on a piece of paper we had to take photos of them and upload them on to the blog.
I really enjoyed filming some parts of our music video as we got to use the new sony hd digital camera to film, as it is in high definition this ment our video would look very professional and more sharp. using this camera makes everything look really good quality. as the camera was digital it was easier for us to upload our footage on to the computer. we also used new technolgys such as our phones to take photos when filming so we could upload them onto the blog,we also used our phones to play the song out loud so it would help louka and kizzy when miming as they then had something to promt them.
We used finalcut to edit our music video we are very fimilar with final cut as we use it alot in media, we use in to cut the footage we dont want, to add transitions and filters, to add the song we chose, final cut allows us to create our music video and perfect it. We also used photoshop which was really fun,i am familar with photoshop as i use it it photography but i didnt feel the other members of my group were that fimilar with it. photoshop allowed us to create our ancillary texts such as our magzine advert and digipack, we were able to editi the photos add effects to them, import any fonts that we wanted to use and design our own media products.overall i really enjoyed using all of these new technologys, without them we couldnt have created our music video.

Comentary plan

We have decided that we want each member in our group to answer one question each, and all answer the last questions together.
after each person answers there main question, i think it would be interesting if they answerd a part of another question, so when it comes to editing it, it wont just be one person answering each question,
we havent decided who answers what question but we will in the next lesson.

When we are editing the question that is being asked will come up on the screen, so it easier for the audience to unsderstand.
When answering the questions we will have some main points that we will want to talk about,so we will plan and organise what we will be saying before hand, i think its good that we dont have a script, but have a few notes.

also when we are talking about certain points i feel it will be good if we got some images and screen grabs to pop up and this will make itmore interessting and keep the audience engaged.
i feel the best place to film will be in a classroom, i think we will put a black or white backgroud up and try and make it look professional, and use good lighting, with using an empty classroom it will  be quite and we wont get disstracted.

Marianne evaluation of digipack

i drew a outline of what i thought our digipack should look like but it turned out alot differently.
we used a photo that i took of louka and photos that we tookof louka and kizzy at a differnt time, evan thought they are very differnt images they look really good together,  we editied them using photoshop and we gave them an effect so you can just see the outline in colour, i also changed the contrast and saturation to get the images perfect.  the photo of louka is used on the back as it is looking to the right is looks really interessting as itlooks like he islooking at the songs tracks. the photos on the front are of louka and kizzy together, showing there personality. ifeel our images where very effective and so was our font which we just found on photoshop.
i felt we needed more time to work on the digipack, i felt we spent more time on making the magazine advert perfect we didnt leave enough time for the digipack, for example we didnt get the spine done on the digipack and we didnt get the little details put in,like the barcode and website, but overall i thought our digipack was good and we worked hard on it.

Marianne Evaluation of magazine advert

I felt the photo we used was very effective as it showed loukas personality and attitude,
we edited the photo using photoshop, we used an affect that looked like the photo was a drawing, and for the font we installed a font from a website, with the font we liked to fonts and couldnt chose so we decided to use both, and i felt this idea turned out well. the photo took up most of the page and was the main focus, what i feel is effective about the photo is louka is looking right at the camera sothis captures our attention.
i decided to put 'dizzee rascal' the artist name right above the photo which was a good idea as that really stands out, and then we put the album name on the right hand side.
more towards the bottom is a tagline and record labels. i felt we included all the vital information needed and i feel that our magazine advert was very succsessful.

Group 1

I really enjoyed watching there commentary, i liked it because they showed their personality, and made it more interessting to watch,
They had their video and imagaes playing on the computer inthe background which was cool.
what i found interessting was that they didnt just answer onequestion, they answerd parts of questions and it was edited to show that they all answer a part. They talked clearly so it was easy to understand them and they spoke about all the imortant points .

Group S1 21

They talk very clearly so it is easier for us to understand and hear them.
Each person talks individually, talking about themes and locations.
it looks very well plannes and though through, there always looking at the camera, which keeps our attention, and there are no notes which is very professional.
They talked about what they did, and how they overcame there problems and there was also visual images which was interessting.

Evaluation question 2

The combination of ancillary texts and our music video, in my opinion it really goes well together because the style of them all are serious underground artist, but at the same time having fun whilst producing his music. I feel that our ancillary texts were overall better and more efficiently designed than our music video. However we didnt plan as much as we could for our music video, because our first idea failed, but we didnt have a back up plan, so some of the scenes and shots were made up on the spot. This had an effect on our group because making decisions that we all agreed on without a plan was hard.
Our digipack, magazine advert, and music video, i feel worked very well together because they all had one thing in common, this was image and representation of the artist.( Dizzee Rascal ). Dizzee Rascal is an underground MC, who has upcome in the mainstream industry rapidly, meaning he has had to adapt his music to different fans to his original ones. However our costumes helped us represent his underground reputation with me (Louka) wearing brands such as "Adidas Originals", hoodies and jackets, also wearing known brands such as "Lyle and Scott", and "Ralph Lauren", showing the audience i have a range of style not just underground. The effects we pit on the magazine advert was black and white cartoon effect, which gave a good representation of the genre of music which was hip hop. The effect we put on the digipack was black, with rainbow coloured outlines of our faces, this made it bold and gave me and kizzy character, it made our artist stand out and gave a "cool" image for the young audience. We chose bold and colourful because this was the genre for our music video and we wanted to keep the same representation throughout all the products.

Evaluation Feedback for all

Here is some generic feedback on the evaluations.
Please read it and decide which is relevant for you, make the appropriate changes and resubmit your evaluation questions to the blog by Wednesday 15th Dec
Question One - Start by outlining the conventions of a music video of your genre, cite some of the examples you looked at (use screen grabs) and then discuss your own use of those conventions, illustrated by examples. You could benefit from discussing in a bit more detail the conventions of your ancillary texts and which ones you used and any you challenged or developed. Make it clear that you know what the conventions are and then discuss each one in turn.

Talk about the choices you made about your engagement with the conventions of your genre. Talk about how you engaged with the form of music videos, obviously it's very different from the narrative video forms you have worked on before. Also talk in detail about specific conventions you used and give examples from your texts. Talk about the video, the magazine ad and the digipak.

Question Two - on the combination of products you talk about the font and the colour design but I want you to talk more about the decision making process and how well you think these three products work as a package. Also talk about the representation of the artist in all three products, do they work in combination to communicate something specific about the artist.

Question Three - Mention all of the points at which you got feedback, pitch, rough cut, final cut, digipak and magazine ad draft and final versions etc. Also talk about peer feedback and using the class as a sample group of your target audience. In addition, talk about the feedback you received from me. Give specific examples in quotes and discuss how you responded to them individually.

Question Four - You need to flesh out this response. How did the technology limit you but also consider how it enabled you to be creative.

things to do

Things to do

Media Video evaluation - we are told to produce a video evaluation in the style of a directors commentary.
the questions included:
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

we are going to take it in turns to answer the questions, for example Kizzy will answer the first and Mari will answer the second, and Louka will answer the third until all the questions are completed.
We are planning our answers in this lesson, by looking at what the question is asking and trying to answer it in the most effective and simple way.

Evaluation questions - marianne

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our song choice was 'wana be gangster' dizzee rascal ft lily allen. We chose this song as it was really upbeat song, and an interesting to genre to look into. I feel like our music video does follow the connventions of a real music video, for example we used lots of costume changes and different locations. one way i feel we challenged the connventions of a real music video is we made our music video quite commical, i feel you normally dont see this is a proffessional video as they are normally quite serious. Another connvention of proffessional video that we did follow is the way the artist presents themsleves and the look that they portray, as our song is alot about image we really needed to put alot of thought into how we are going to represent our artist. with our music we wanted to use our group members in the video, so louka played dizzee rascal and kizzy played lilly allen.
With our music video i dont think we followed many of goodwins points, for example voyersim is not used in our music video, we dont use any extreme close ups of kizzys body or face, or any inviting scenes. With our music video there is a combination of visuals and lyrics, as we used miming and the shots go with the lyrics,
Although i feel our music video followed the connventions i dont feel that our magazine advert and digipack follow the connventions, for example our magazine advert we used a photo of louka for the front, but we edited it so it looked like a drawing...

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancilliary texts?
I feel that the combination of our main product and ancilliary texts is very effective. i liked how they both turned out, i feel it was alot harder to make our music video look very proffessional due to lack of proffessional equipment. Evan though we did plan our music video, i feel that we didnt plan enough,  and we should have made a back up plan for when our original idea failed. Our main aim and idea that we had for all our prodcuts was how the artists looked and represented themselves, one aspect which i feel we worked hard to achieve were all the costume changes, i feel this makes it look very proffessional and shows we made an effort.
The combination is effective as we show the main artists the hole time, so the audience dont get confused, i feel that louka and kizzy have a very close bond, and you can see this is our music video and ancilliary products as they work very well together.
i feel our products work very well together and this was very important to us, they stand out as they are quite stylish. i feel that the way louka acts and looks in the music video and magazine advert look great, it really potrays him the way we wanted to, it shows a wana be gangster attitude and that is what we were trying to achieve.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
We got some very interessting feedback from amar and the class. i felt it is good to get feedback from others as you get stuck in your own ways and it is good to get hear the views of an outsider about the video as they dont know all the details and ideas behind the video. The feedback that was given was both good and bad.
one thing that amar said that really stuck in are heads was that at the beggining of kizzy are to long and go on for about 15- more seconds, and he said this was to long and he got bored and a way we could fix this was by breaking it up a bit and intoducing loukas charater a bit earlier. we took this advice and started to break it up using more shots of louka to split itup.
another piece of advice that amar gave us was that some of our miming was out of time, we knew this but it was good to hear it from a proffessional as he gave us some ways we could fix it and makeit look better. i feel it was very good to get feedback from a proffessional as he gave us ways we could improve and make our video alot better. one of the good comments that amar and the class gave us was that kizzy and louka relationship showed really well on camera and doesnt look fake.
we chose costumes that we thought our target audience would appreciate and that was suitable, we did ask the audience a few questions and did discover our target audience.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
with the planning on the blog there was a problem with uploading photos, we had to go on flirk and upload the photos on to there and copy the html codes and then paste this ontothe blog, it was a bit time consuming and was a little complicated.
we used final cut express, we are fimilar with the programme and know how to use it, but we have never had to fit it with a song with lyrics, which was hard as we kept having to change the speed and it kept going out of sync, so we kept having to fix it, getting the miming to fit with the song was deffinatly the hardest part.
also when filming our music video we filmed in alot of different locations with different costumes so when itcame to editing the video we had so many cuts and shots to consider so that was quite hard. also we found it hard as the camera kept running outof battery so that was very time consuming as we kept having to charge it.

Quick photoshoot

For the front of our digipack we have to have a photo of louka and kizzy, but we dont have a good photo we can use, so we may have to do a really quick photoshoot on tuesday morning.
this is really unorganised of us for leaving it till last minute and we should have planned this alot better, but hopefully it doesnt take long to do and we get a good shot.

Last lesson .

On tuesday is our last lesson and we have quite a bit to do,
Things to do

Finish font and logos on magazine advert

Write in tracks on the back of digipack
Finish editing photo
add logos and barcode

Front of digipack
edit photo of louka and kizzy

create the spine

There is quite a bit of work to do, but hopefully if we are organised we can get this done

Fonts we used for magazine advert

We were struggling with were we could find some good bubble/graffttii font, so we asked andrea our media teacher if she had any suggesstions and she suggested this website, dafont.com
We looked through quit a few fonts and then decided to seach 'bubble'

This was the first font that we liked and decided we wanted to use, the reason why we decided that we wanted to use this font is because it is similar to the font that we designed and imagined.
bubblefont

The only thing we didnt like about this font is that the beggining letter didnt start with a capital, and we need it to start with a capital letter so it would stand out, i thought that another way around this would be to choose another 'bubble'font that we liked and use the beggining letter from that, so here is the second font we used.
 2ndfont

Techniques used to create magazine advert

On photo shop the first thing we did was change the photo into greyscale, and we started to look through the effects for the photo and found a nice cartoon effect where we could play around with and make it as contrasted and bright as we wanted, below is a picture of the effect that we used.
louka blackand white

After this we noticed  a line going down the middle so we used the clone tool to get rid of the line, the clone tool is where u select a bit of the photo and copy that section to cover the section you dont want, below is a screen shot of what we did with the clone tool.

Magazine advert so far

In last lesson me and louka started to design our magazine advert, i showed him the draft drawing and we decided that we were going to go ahead with it. we started creating it on photoshop.
we decided we wanted to use one of the photos that we took in the photoshoot, but we wanted to add alot of effects. the reason why we wanted to add alot of effects to the photo is because for the writting we want to have it in a graffiti font so we thought this would go well.

Magazine advert photo

Here is the photo that we are going to use for our magazine advert,  it is only of louka as he is  the main artist that we are focusing on. i feel this photo is the best to use, as of his costume, it looks like something that dizzee rascal would wear,
The way louka is posing really captures the audiences attention as he is pointing at the camera and looks very moody.

Designs for magzine advert

Here is a picture of what i drew for an example of our magazine advert, i really like our magazine advert as it is simple and effective, using bright and bold colours. This is just a rough draft so it is not perfect but i just wanted to show our ideas,

Designs for digipack

I designed these, i drew them really quicky just to show a rough draft of what we were talking about and our ideas, i feel the magazine advert is the way we want it,and what we want to do, so i am happy with the magazine advert. but i feel the digipackneeds more work and more thought put into it.
Here is the back

Image and target audience

For our digipack we wanted to use a photo of louka and kizzy as they are both of the artist are featured in the song.
On the front there will be a photo and above the photo will have writting saying dizze rascal ft lily allen wana be gangster,
in the middle will be the cd and on the back will be a photo of louka representing dizze and a tracklist and logos and barcodes and all the nesscesary information needed. For our digipack i think we need to take more photos as wedont have any photos of louka and kizzy.
i feel the digipack is alot harder to design as there is alot more to think about and design.

Ideas and inspiration for digipack

For our digipack we wanted to use a photo of louka and kizzy as they are both of the artist are featured in the song.

Ideas and inspiration for magazine advert

The magazine advert is going to be the size of an a4 piece of  paper, We want the photo to be big and bold and really stand out, and above the photo we would like some writting sayign 'Dizzee rascal'  is massive writting.
We will have the album/ song name, how much it costs, logos the rating and where it will be sold.
We did look at other atrists for inspiration for this magazine advert, such as what the compositon should looklike, but really i designed it myself, i feel the composition look really good,  there are different fonts and different and also it is very simple and includes the information it needs.

Logos

Anaylisis of real artist digipack

This is analysis of Michael jacksons digipack.
I feel the image is very effective, it is up against a white/grey background, and there isnt acutally a photo of michael jackson there is an outline of him and lots of photos filled inside, i feel this was a very great idea, as there are so many photos of him that they could obviously have chosen from that they couldnt pick one, so i think the best thing to do was make a collage. This digipack follows most of the conventions, for example has the name of the artist the name of the album, all the logos and track listings. The reason why i feel this digipack is very succsessful is because it is simplistic and tasteful. and the photos used are really bright and colourful which attracts the audience.

Analysis of student Digipack

Group 35 Digi Pack2

I really liked this student digipack, at first the thought of creating a digipack was quite dawnting as there are alot of things to include, plan, and think about, but this media students digipack makes it look quite simple.
They use a very effective photo on all sides of the digipack which i like as we the audience are visually drawn in.
Another thing i like about their digipack is how the photos represents all the artists, with the black and white theme and the little bits of colour it really looks very interessting.
The digipack includes vital information such as the name of the artist, track lists, logos, i feel this is a good example of a digipack i feel it looks very proffessional as of the photos and the fonts. i think after evaluating their work what we got out of it was that we would like our work to look quite simpal as this digipack looks very simple and it looks very proffessional.

Ideas for review strap lines

As a group we were thinking of some review stap lines for our magazine advert. We have to think about the target audience and what sort of people would comment on the music.
We thought we could have another famous artist who looks into the same genre, comment on the album.
We thought we could maybe have kiss radio or kiss music channel, or some sort of teenage magazine.

Font possibilites for magazine and digipack

The reason why i chose these fonts is i feel they are bold and they look interesting and thats what dizzee represents, his style and look is very bold and stands out. i have got a few to chose from and will talk to the rest of my group and decide on what font we should use.

Ideas for track listings

Of course the first track on the album will be
Wana be gangster ft Lily alen
And here are some made up tracks and some exsiting tracks
Bad boy
Dirty money
i luv u
Jezebels
Wot u on
do it!
Dance with me                                               Live

Dizzee rascal over lily alen

As this is dizzee rascals song and lily alen is only featuring in it,  we had to decide if we were going to use both artist on the digipack and magazine advert.
we decided that for the digipack we are going to use and feature both artist as the digipack is for thesong, and for the magazine advert we decided on only using dizze rascal,as its his album that we are advertising and lily is only featuring on one song.

Anaylisis of real artist magazine advert

This is gwen stefanis magazine advert, which has been created by proffessionals, what i really like about it is the photo, it covers the whole page and really draws the viewers in, what i really like about the photo is that some of it is paited so it looks quite out of focus.
The magazine advert has most of the information needed, such as artist name, website, release date, where you can buy it from, some names of the songs. What i feel they could have done differently is some of the font is very small, so is quite hard to read,so i feel they should have made it a bit bigger.
What i liked is the font they used, it looks very original.
i feel our group can take some inspiration from the magazine advert, as it looks very proffessional, and the photo is very effective.

I feel this students magazine advert is good, i feel the pictures and colours used really capture the audiences attention. I think that the information given out is very inforative for example it has the release date, where you can buy it, quoataions, the artist name,  but the one thing is doesnt have is info on the record branding label.
I think the picture used it great, give the audience a bit of an idea of what type of music it is.
One thing i would change is the bright blue background is makes it quite hard to read the writting,as the writting is white and green, but other than that i feel the magazine advert sells the artist quite well.

Target audience - digipack and magazine advert

As our video and artist are all about their image, it is very important to show this in all our products,
so for example we want the magazine and digipack photos really focusing on the artist and showing their personality, our target audience is young adults/ teenagers, we target both females and males as our video shows dizze and lily so you here both sides, which i feel is a benifit for us.

Below are a few examples of how the real artists portay themselves in their cd covers and magazine adverts.

As you can see, dizze  uses bright colours to attract his audience and they use great photos of the artists.

Photos for digipack and magazine advert

One problem with deciding what photos what we were going to use was that we all liked differnt photos and all had are own ideas of what we wanted to do.

These were some of the photos that i thought we should use, the reason why i thought these photos would be good as they suit our target audience and image.

Blog ideas for the photoshoot

We were looking for photos that we had already taken during filming, and although we had some good ones, we thought it would be best if we took new photos, so we had a wider choice of what we can use for our digipack and magazine advert, with this shoot kizzy wasnt there so i took photos of louka, showing differnt backgrounds and differnt positions.

Digipack

Digipaks typically consist of a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside. Since Digipaks were among the first alternatives to jewel cases to be used by major record companies, and because there is no other common name for Digipak-style packaging made by other companies, the term digipak or Digi-Pak[2] is often used generically, even when the media holder is a hub or "Soft Spot"[3] rather than a full plastic tray.
Digipak-style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums and the tall DVD Digipak (DVDigipak)[4] is used as a premium package for DVDs and DVD sets. Because such packaging is less resistant to abrasion than jewel cases, it tends to show signs of wear relatively quickly. Licensed digipak manufacturers such as domestic U.S. printer and disc replicator Oasis Disc Manufacturing[5] recommend coating the raw printed paper with a protective UV coating, thus ensuring greater longevity.

Music video - final version

Overall our music is a little bit different to how we imagined it i think, as first we had a story line and we were going to create a story, but in the end we didn't use this idea as it didn't look as good  as we thought. We had loads of ideas as a group, and we worked well. i feel the hardest part about making this music video, is making our ideas in our head real and filming them. i also feel that making the miming perfect was very difficult, we decided to make our music video slightly comical , this was done instead of a storyline at some points and made our music video more eye catching as it will keep the audience wanting to watch.

Mood board

I have created a mood board, with the mood board it wasnt about a certian colour scheme, it was about putting images together that show what our music video is about, as dizzee and lily are very popular and are style icons, it makes sense to base our video all around the aspect of style, so for our mood board,i put together some images that show the style of our music video, and say that image is important as that is the message that they portray.
In the mood board there are photos of dizze himself and lily, showing theaudience what they wear, they are chains and flashy cars, showing that its about image.

Amatuer vs professional

Of corse the professional music video is going to be alot better,as they have a list of things that the amatuer artist doesnt for example

Money
Alot more time to plan
Props
Higher budget song
Skilled directors, and the hole crew
And acsess to better locations

Where as an amatuer video will have less money, not as amazing props, maybe not as many people working for them, and less extravagant locations.

here is example from to music videos,  the first one
Rihanna - only girl in the world  and the amatuer Devlin - community outcast

you can really see the difference in the two videos
